3 reasons why you should take HDR photographs

In addition to software that create HDR images, more and more smartphone manufacturers have been adding HDR technology to their camera functionalities while TV brands start to market new HDR screens and streaming platforms to produce HDR content. But what is HDR and what does it do? How is this technology used in photography? And above all, why you should take HDR photograph?

But what is HDR and what does it do? How is this technology used in photography? And above all, why you should take HDR photograph?

What is HDR?

HDR stands for High Dynamic Range. This technology is used in photography to go beyond the constraints of light exposure. The traditional method of creating an HDR image is called “Bracketing”. It consists of compiling three different exposures of the same scene in order to exploit all light dynamics and reveal details in under- and over-exposed areas. In 2013, a new method of creating HDR images from videos is developed by the company HDRlog. That latter consists of creating long exposures by stacking a multitude of images.

Why should you take HDR photographs?

1.Create stunning HDR photos you never thought possible

Before HDR exists, photographers could only set one exposure value for an entire scene. That could result in burnt-out or extremely dark aeras.

Because HDR consists of using several light intensity levels, photographers are now able to exploit all the light dynamics of a scene. HDR makes it possible to recover details, tones and colors in under- and over- exposed aeras. When the gap between shadows and highlights is significant, sky is now the limit!

2.Enhance your photographs

With HDR technology, photographs can produce striking images. HDR photographs have much more details and information, making it easier to apply tone-mapping. Software such as HDRinstant offers advanced features to adjust brightness, contrast, saturation and white balance. Once your photograph has been processed in HDR, you can then easily modify and enhance it.

3.Explore your creativity

HDR offers a wide range of visual effects and thus increases tenfold photographic styles. Photographers can create multiple aesthetic renderings, from the most realistic to the most surprising ones. Software such as HDRinstant allows the user to remove ghosting, or to apply a long exposure effect to easily obtain an aesthetic blur.
